ABOUT LA FONDERIE

Founded in 2001, la fonderie is a ministry that exists to value, encourage, inspire and embolden Christians working in the arts. It is a place to explore the relationship between art, culture and faith, to disciple those with artistic gifts, to provide a place for them to develop and practice their art, to encourage others in the body of Christ to discover, develop and enjoy creativity and artistic expression. It is a community of believers who are seeking to follow Christ in their contemporary urban context. The activities of la fonderie are focused on three areas.

Artists groups
Inviting Christians who are artists to various kinds of gatherings to create an community of artists, to help them build biblical foundations, to encourage them to work and live as Christians in general culture and to serve with their gifts as part of the church. We organize monthly and weekly gatherings, occasional weekend events, and conferences for artists.
An Arts Center and Gallery
Established in 2006, the arts space is in the heart of the city. It is gathering place for artists, where they can exhibit and perform their work. The goal of the space is to help artists as they develop their careers and artistic projects, to give them a place to have their work discovered by the public. It is also a place for meeting believing and non-believing artists and people who love art.
A Community of faith
There is a group of people who have gathered around la fonderie and for whom la fonderie is a spiritual home. We organize a monthly prayer and worship night, weekly Bible studies, discussion groups, retreats, to encourage and strengthen people on their spiritual journeys, moving them towards discipleship and devotion to Christ. It is a community committed to reach out to people in Paris with love, faith, and hope.
La fonderie presents discipleship opportunities for artists, encouraging spiritual growth and renewed commitment to the Lord and the body of Christ, and releasing artists to pursue their professions in the world of arts, media and entertainment and have impact in these critical areas of cultural influence. In additional, small groups for Bible study, prayer and discussion are an important part of their work, as is the organization of arts shows, concerts, forums, debates, and spiritual renewal events. As a community of faith, la fonderie is committed to reaching Paris with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and so is adapting its shape to French, urban culture. La fonderie is a member of the Mosaic Alliance.
Concerning the arts space
The arts have a critical role to play in the redemption and transformation of culture: Because of the importance of Paris as a city of influence, we continue to network and exchange with others working with artists and cultural designers, including innovative church leaders who are finding new ways (and remembering some old ways) for the church to participate in culture, shining as lights of hope and grace in their cities.
The French church is generally non-receptive to the integration of art into the life and public expression of faith and worship, and passively inhospitable to artists who are often dissatisfied with its forms of expression and worship, traditions, and even its spirituality.
The French context is perhaps not unlike many others concerning the material and financial support of artists and their work by the church. In France, the artists with which we are working are almost exclusively focused on doing their art as a part of culture, not as outsiders concerned with finding a way to market or sell a message contained in the art. It is true that clear communication of faith may close doors in galleries, concert venues, production houses, and employment in certain firms. Yet by grace, excellence or innovation provides opportunity. We are committed to encourage and walk with artists as they pursue training and excellence in their art, and to organize ministry around their lives, helping them grow strong in the Lord and move into the directions He has prepared for them.

Values and vision of La Fonderie

La fonderie Seeks to equip creatively gifted Christians with:
• A deeper understanding of who they are in Christ
• A clearer vision of how their creative and artistic gifts can be used to glorify God and proclaim his kingdom
• A greater sense of their need for the body of Christ
• A broader world view
Foundational values
Kingdom Perspective: Understanding that there are two opposing kingdoms operating in the earth, and that we, as a part of the Kingdom of God, will to some degree remain strangers to the world in which we live. John 15:18-19

Worship: Recognizing that we are created as worshipers, we acknowledge that if we do not worship the God of heaven, we will worship someone or something else. This is our ultimate identity and eternal vacation. 1 Chron. 16:25-29

The Glory of God: God’s purpose, as well as ours, is to see Him receive the glory He is due; all of human history, and every aspect of our lives, serves in one way or another to glorify the Name that has no equal. Psalm 19:1 / Isaiah 26:8

Servanthood and humility: As artistically gifted people, we are called to follow in the footsteps of the Master artist, who came not to be served, but to serve. This attitude, coupled with sacrificial, disarming love, will cause others to take notice and glorify God. Mark 10:42-45

The Body of Christ: Embracing the Church of Jesus Christ, with all of her flaws and blemishes, as well as her beauty, as seeking to serve her through the creative gifts entrusted to us. 1 Cor. 12:12-27
